Lessons in Gratitude Day 135

Wow, the end of another week. Where is the time going?

Today was Veteran’s Day. I found myself honoring in my heart those veterans in my family–my father and my brother. Dad served honorably in World War II, earning a Purple Heart for injuries sustained as an army engineer responsible for clearing mine fields–disarming and detonating them. I find myself wishing again that I had asked him more questions and started recording his stories much much earlier than I did. Now he’s not present for me to ask my many questions, and he was the last of his generation to whom I could direcrly address any inquiries about family history. That makes me sad. I also honor my brother Alan who served honorably in the Marine Corps back in the mid 1970s. He never saw combat action, but he served with distinction earning his stripes as a sergeant after only two years in the Corps. I honor them both for their dedication and service and am grateful for them. I am not a big believer in wars and military conflicts, but I honor the lives of the people who put themselves in harm’s way to do the work they’ve been asked to do.

Tonight I am pondering what’s next for this blog. I will keep writing about those things I am grateful for. Whether I will continue to do this every day is uncertain. Some days the cursed blinking cursor mocks me, challenging me to have something worthwhile to say. Other days I have experiences or flashes of inspiration that get me going.  It seems inauthentic to  write something for the sake of saying something every day, so I am in thought about how to handle this. In any event, those of you who read regularly will have to stay tuned.

So once again, a few items of simple gratitude. I am grateful for having had a good day with my daughter, and a nice brunch with both kids. The three of us are going to hang out some more over the next couple of days, which is a very good thing. It’s a nice break from job hunting and the waiting I’ve been engaged in through this entire week. I am looking forward to some play time this weekend.  Then it’s back to work on Monday–working on a project as well as continuing to seek revenue-producing opportunities. I am hoping for a good week ahead, though there might be a few potential rough spots. I plan to approach the week with as much grace and gratitude as I can. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for reading this week!
